The Library has a long history and a long trajectory, as well as being a reference library for its activities, services to members, involvement in the cultural life of the city and collaboration with associations, institutions and social groups.
Its origins can be traced back to the disentailment of Mendizábal, since in order to collect and inventory books from convents, the Guadalajara Provincial Council created a library on 6th March 1837, opening it to the public in 1841 and providing service from 1845 onwards. The library passed through various buildings in the city, such as the la Piedad Convent and Infantado Palace, until its current location in the Davalos Palace.
